Some of the World’s Unbelievable Marriage Records!

Here are a few fun facts on this dreary gray Monday! A little collection of some of the world’s unbelievable marriage records!

LONGEST WEDDING GOWN TRAIN

This two-mile wedding gown train was created by a Romanian designer in March of 2012. Andree Salon Fashion House made this dress, which more than doubled the previous record of under a mile.

LONGEST ENGAGEMENT

When they were both 15 years old, Octavio and Adriana got engaged in 1902. They were finally married when they were both 82! That’s 67 years in the waiting, ladies!

MOST MARRIAGES IN A LIFETIME

88-year-old Glynn Wolfe said “I do” a total of 29 times in his lifetime! (Incidentally, he also holds the record for the most divorces). His first marriage was in 1926, and his last “I do” happened in 1996. And of all of his marriages, his shortest union was only 19 days (beat that, Britney Spears!) and his longest? Seven years. And whilst we’re on that topic…

WORLD’S SHORTEST MARRIAGE

Abdul Salam Darweesh holds the record for divorcing his wife – just seconds after their marriage in Dubai! He literally stepped from the wedding court to the divorce court! The ink on his marriage certificate was still wet when he signed his divorce papers. H boy!

OLDEST BRIDE AND GROOM

For these two, age didn’t matter! Francoise and Madeleine married in 2002 when they were both 96 and 94, respectively. True love has no limits!

BIGGEST AGE DIFFERENCE

Check this out! 105-year-old Sudar Marto of Malaysia married 22-year-old Ely Maryulianti in September of 2006. That’s a whooping 83 year difference in age!

MOST EXPENSIVE WEDDING

The most expensive wedding was when Vanisha married investment banker Amid. The two tied the knot in Versailles, and their wedding lasted a total of six days, costing a total of 78 million dollars! The night’s entertainment included a performance by Kylie Minogue!

MOST EXPENSIVE WEDDING FOR PETS

NOt to be outdone, these two doggies’s wedding cost a total of $270,000! Baby Hope Diamond (Coton de Tulear) and Virginia poodle, Chilly Pasternak’s big day featured a $6,000 wedding dress and a $5,000 sushi spread. They even had an orchestra playing for their nuptials.

MOST CRYSTALS ON WEDDING GOWN

45,024. That was the number of crystals on a wedding dress made by Ozden Gelinlik Moda Tasarsim Ltd. and was presented in Istanbul on January 29th, 2011.

WORLD’S TALLEST COUPLE

In the land of giants, these two were probably just “normal”. Keisha and Wilco, combined together, were a total of 13.3 feet tall! The bride was 6 feet and 5 inches, and the groom was seven feet tall. Perhaps their kids would be future NBA players?

WORLD’S SHORTEST COUPLE

Not to be outdone, Douglas (two feet eleven inches tall) and Claudia (three feet) said their vows in 1998.

MOST USHERS TO A GROOM

That would be for Suresh Arulanantham Joachim’s wedding, when he married Christa Rasahnayagam of Canada at Christ the King Catholic Church in September of 2003. Suresh was accompanied by 47 groomsmen, aged between 2 and 63!

MOST GENERATIONS TO CELEBRATE DIAMOND WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

That’s 60 years of wedded bliss, folks! And the record is held by the descendants of William and Rose Hill of the United Kingdom. In all, there have been SIX diamond wedding celebrations within their family! The first diamond anniversary was celebrated by William and Rose in 1913, and to date, the most recent diamond annivesary, celebration number 6, in the family was celebrated in 2002 by Gwendoline and Gordon Sugg.

BIGGEST WEDDING CAKE

Where in the world is the world’s largest wedding cake to date? That would be in Connecticut, where the Mohegan Sun casino’s wedding cake weighed in at a total of 15,032 pounds. It could feed up to 59,000 people! Now that’s a whole lot of sugar rushes!

OLDEST WEDDING CAKE

It is 113 years old and is still intact! The four-tiered cake was displayed at a bakery until it closed down in 1964, then kept in an attic until it was donated to the Willis Museum in Basingstoke, Hants. Apparently, the sugars have seeped into the icing, turning the cake brown. And it has a crack due to the bomb blast in World War II. But the cake, baked in 1898, is still moist!

MOST EXPENSIVE CAKE SLICE

Whilst we’re on the topic of cakes, a box containing a piece of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor’s 1937 wedding cake was sold at Sotheby’s New York for a whopping $29,900. Benjamin and Amanda Yin of San Francisco are the proud owners of this slice of cake, which bore the inscription “A piece of our wedding cake WE 3-VI-1-37″.

BIGGEST MASS MARRIAGE

40,000 people exchanged vows at the same time in Asan, South Korea on October 20th, 2009.

LARGEST UNDERWATER WEDDING

Not to be outdone, in August of 2011, 303 divers attended the wedding ceremony between Polish Ewa and Pawel at the Koparki Diving Base, Jaworzno, Poland. The couple and the priest communicated with each other underwater by using water proof texts and a system of sign language. This has got to be the quietest wedding ceremony, ever!

…and last but definitely not least …

WORLD’S LONGEST MARRIAGE

Who can’t help but shed a sweet tear for this happily married couple? They hold the record for the world’s longest union – 86 years! Herbert (104) and Zelmyra (101) tweet their love advice to the masses via their aptly named twitter account @longestmarried. When they’re not sharing their worldly advice, this awesome couple enjoy sitting on their front porch and counting cars (I love to do that too!)

Well there you have it, folks! A bunch of fun facts to mull over! But I am pretty sure we probably missed a few other records relating to weddings! What other wedding records do you know that we didn’t chat about today?
